Oakley eyewear is the perfect choice for an active lifestyle.

Founded in 1975 by Jim Jannard, a Californian Motorcross enthusiast, the company began by selling motorcycle grips. The “Oakley Grip” was made of a unique hydrophilic rubber, created and patented by Jannard.  Named “Unobtanium”, the rubber grip effect increases as it becomes moist with perspiration. As lasting proof of its success, this material is still used to make “earsocks” and many of the nosepieces today.

Many design features in Oakley frames and sunglasses derive from Motorbike technology. The inspiration for the Hollow Point joint originates from the cam compression system in a motorbike back wheel. The result is a hinge without a screw, so it doesn’t need regular tightening and the sides on the glasses won’t “go floppy”.

Most of Oakley’s innovative designs have been developed with extensive athlete input and testing in the field, often to extreme conditions. In endorsement of their rugged and highly protective characteristics, their sunglasses are supplied to the U.S. military as Standard Issue.

Oakley is favoured by top sportsmen and women. Brand ambassadors include cyclists Mark Cavendish and Chris Froome, Valentino Rossi and Kevin Pieterson.
